ISO sensitivity (also called ISO speed), is included in Release 3.5 of both Imatest Master and Industrial Testing (IT) packages. ISO sensitivity is a measure of how strongly an image sensor and/or camera responds to light. Both Saturation-based and Standard Output Sensitivity, as described in ISO 12232, are calculated, but the measurement procedure has been considerably streamlined as compared to the ISO specification. The calculation is included in four Imatest modules– Stepchart, Colorcheck, Multicharts, and SFRplus– when the incident light level in Lux is entered.
Now imatest users can quickly and easily analyze ISO sensitivity, as shown in the sample results below for a stepchart image captured with a Canon EOS 20D camera. “ISO Sensitivity was the only major image quality factor not supported by Imatest software, and we are pleased to offer our customers this important new feature” said Norman Koren, Imatest CTO.

Boulder, Colo. — Imatest LLC, the leading provider of digital image quality testing software, and The Center For Artificial Vision (C4AV; www.C4AV.com), in Novi., Mich., the leading digital camera module supplier in North America, have partnered to expand distribution and support for the recently released DevWare Edition of Imatest, a software package that enables rapid, automatic testing of image quality during the process of configuring Aptina image sensors (www.aptina.com), an image sensors company based in San Jose, Calif.

So when Imatest IT (industrial testing) was released, Pelco realized it was the most cost-effective way to ensure that the high-quality designs from its laboratories were delivered in its manufacturing process. “Operators on the manufacturing line needed to be able to test complex image quality factors in the products coming off the line. Imatest IT is the answer,” Campbell says.
Nell Papavasiliou, Camera Optics Engineer at Pelco, spearheaded a trial project to integrate Imatest IT into the manufacturing process at Pelco’s world headquarters in Clovis, CA. “I don’t have a strong background in software development, but it was a straightforward process for me to integrate Imatest IT into our manufacturing system. I wrote a few lines of C# and that was all it took,” Papavasiliou says.
Pelco management says that with the success of the California trial, the company is moving forward with Imatest and Imatest IT for other manufacturing lines to deliver a new level of quality control.
