Verification of Long-Range MTF Testing Through Intermediary Optics
Alex Schwartz, Sarthak Tandon and Jackson Knappen of Imatest present their Electronic Imaging 2020 paper. Testing a camera at its real working distance, several meters to infinity, is rarely practical in production, so intermediary optics (relay lenses) are used to simulate long test distances. The Imatest Collimator Fixture does this with a relay lens and a test chart. The talk shows how to verify that the simulated distances are right: by comparing where peak MTF occurs at real distances with where it occurs at the matching simulated distances on the fixture.
