When used with Imatest software, the SFRplus test chart delivers a new capability that automatically identifies regions of interest (ROI) and helps you rapidly complete a wide range of image quality tests, including sharpness, lateral chromatic aberration, lens distortion, gamma (contrast), and tonal response. In addition SFRplus test chart offers significant benefits over other popular charts such as the ISO 12233, including:
  • Much less wasted area. About 90% of the ISO chart is covered with patterns that have little value for computer analysis, but the SFRplus test chart makes use of 100% of its test area. Ability to produce a map of sharpness (MTF) over the image surface -- up to 23 regions can be automatically analyzed. The ISO chart has no such capability because there are only a few suitable edges — and they may not be well-located.
  • Less clipping of contrast edges. The 10:1 contrast edges of the SFRplus test chart are less likely to clip than the edges in the ISO chart, which has contrast specifications of 40:1. Results are more consistent and accurate, being less affected by overexposure and underexposure. Also, 10:1 edges are more representative of real edges that affect perceived image sharpness.
  • More signal processing information. The low contrast edges provide additional information about signal processing in the camera under test. Although Imatest SFR is relatively insensitive to chart contrast -- MTF is normalized to 100% at low spatial frequencies -- measured SFR is often affected by chart contrast due to nonlinear signal processing in cameras.
  • ISO-compliant measurements. ISO-compliant measurements do not require an ISO chart. Imatest software measures image quality using ISO standard algorithms which are independent of the test chart used. This means you can achieve ISO-compliance in all your image quality testing when using the SFRplus chart.
  • SFRplus charts come in most sizes, substrates, and image forming materials
  • For testing medical systems or other imaging systems that require very small charts, consider our line of small chrome-on-glass and chrome-on-opal charts
  • For video sensor testing, consider our newest SFRplus test chart that works with Davidson Optronics TV Optoliner projection system
